Pupils explore ancient Egypt at Herons’ Moor

Pupils at Herons’ Moor Academy have been studying the mysterious and fascinating world of ancient Egypt as part of their history curriculum.
Year 6 historians particularly enjoyed working collaboratively to design and make their own shadufs, an ancient, hand-operated irrigation tool used to lift water from a source such as a river to higher ground for farming.
The hands-on activity helped pupils deepen their understanding of how the ancient Egyptians used engineering and innovation to support everyday life along the River Nile.
A spokesperson for Herons’ Moor Academy said: “The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm and creativity throughout this project.
“By building their own shadufs, they were able to bring history to life and gain a real appreciation of the ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians.
“It has been wonderful to see such strong teamwork, problem-solving skills and curiosity in action.”
