Pupils at Herons’ Moor shine bright with Diwali creativity

Year 5 pupils at Herons’ Moor Academy loved getting creative this week as they took part in hands-on learning to celebrate Diwali.
As part of their studies, pupils designed and crafted their own clay diya lamps, an activity that helped bring the traditions of the festival to life.
Celebrated worldwide, Diwali is the Hindu “Festival of Lights,” a five-day celebration that symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
Creating diya lamps offered pupils a wonderful opportunity to explore culture, tradition, and artistic expression while deepening their understanding of the festival’s significance.
A spokesperson for the academy said: “It’s wonderful to see our pupils engaging so enthusiastically with Diwali traditions.
“Activities like making clay diya lamps not only spark creativity but also help children appreciate different cultures and the important values these celebrations represent.”
