Herons’ Moor tortoise George returns

Pupils at Herons’ Moor Academy have been delighted to welcome back their much-loved school tortoise, George, following the Christmas break.

George has quickly settled back into school life and is enjoying plenty of gentle, hands-on attention from pupils, who have been helping to care for him under supervision.

He has also been tucking into his favourite treat, delicious fresh lettuce, much to everyone’s delight.

Over the holiday period, George’s habitat received a New Year makeover, with a range of new features added to create exciting and enriching spaces for him to explore.

The refreshed environment supports George’s wellbeing while giving pupils further opportunities to learn about responsibility, animal care and respect for living creatures.

A spokesperson for Herons’ Moor Academy said: “George is a much-loved member of our school community, and it has been wonderful to see how excited the children have been to welcome him back.

“Caring for George helps our pupils develop empathy, responsibility and curiosity about the natural world.”
