Herons’ Moor historians explore SS Great Britain

Year 2 historians from Herons’ Moor Academy enjoyed a fantastic trip to the SS Great Britain, diving deep into the history and innovation of one of Britain’s most iconic ships.

The children took part in a guided tour both above and below deck, discovering how passengers lived during Victorian times and seeing first-hand the cramped spaces where people slept.

They also immersed themselves in the engineering world of the era, gaining insightful knowledge about the ship’s famous designer and builder, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

A spokesperson for Herons’ Moor Academy said: “Our pupils were absolutely captivated by the experience.

“The trip brought history to life in a truly memorable way and sparked real curiosity about Victorian engineering and exploration.

“We’re incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children were throughout the day.”
