Herons’ Moor welcomes a new shelled friend
Herons’ Moor Academy pupils have been delighted to make friends with a very special new member of their school community – a baby tortoise, generously donated to the academy by a friend of the school.
As part of the school’s commitment to democracy and pupil voice, the entire school will take part in voting to choose a name for their new reptilian friend.
Since it won’t be possible to determine whether the tortoise is male or female for several years, the chosen name will be one that suits any gender.
A school spokesperson said: “We’re thrilled to welcome our new tortoise to the Herons’ Moor family.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to take part in a democratic process and come together to care for a living creature.
“The excitement is already spreading through the classrooms, and we can’t wait to see what name the pupils choose.”
